smart:comp 2’s compression technology is based on a unique spectro-dynamic compression approach. Since the signal’s characteristics are constantly being analyzed during compression, smart:comp 2 needs a small “look ahead” to collect enough data for its next move.
Since we know that a lot of you would love to use smart:comp 2 during recording sessions or in other situations where zero or very low latencies are important, we're currently looking into ways to provide the same (or similar) results in a dedicated “zero latency mode”. This is really tricky and we didn’t find a solution that meets our high quality standards yet - but we’ll continue digging into this. 😉
